Another edition of Mark Gurman’s popular Power On newsletter, another important Apple tidbit.
According to the latest edition, the second-generation Apple Vision Pro, the Apple Vision Pro 2, is expected to hit the shelves between fall 2025 and spring 2026.
Gurman’s revelation aligns with the previous leaks. However, the reporter is slightly less optimistic.
Apple Vision Pro 2 with the M5 chip won’t feel dated at all
If you don’t remember, avid Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple delayed its plans for a cheaper version of Apple Vision Pro last week.
Instead, the Cupertino firm is now focusing on a second-generation Apple Vision Pro, which will be released next year.
However, according to the latest report, Apple plans to upgrade the Vision Pro 2 with its M5 chip, which has yet to be released.
Apple launched the Vision Pro with the M2 chip. However, the concurrent launch of the M3 and M4 chip made the $3,500 headset a bit dated.
Meanwhile, according to Gurman’s report, Apple Vision Pro 2 should get the M5 chip around the same time as the Macs so that it won’t feel dated compared to Apple’s other products.
In terms of the design, a redesign is highly unlikely. This is what Bloomberg had to say,
Apple is working on several ideas for its Vision headset line, but at least one version of the second-generation Vision Pro — assuming it’s released — will look almost entirely like the current design. The big changes are internal, including a processor upgrade.
That’s all. Apple’s ditching its plans for a cheaper Vision headset means the company is focusing all its attention on the Vision Pro successor to make it more appealing to the mass market.
The company has already started improving the software by introducing new features, such as Wide and ultra-wide display options for Mac Virtual Display, which were included in visionOS 2.2.
