Steps for maximum security and privacy online

Here’s what you need to know.

Most of us know that privacy and security are especially important when it comes to online activities. When you think about it, most of us do something online. We’re surrounded by online shopping, online banking, and we’ve also learned what it is like to work from home.

It is essential to know how to stay private and secure in general, and particularly when it concerns online shopping and banking. Today we will provide you with a few tips for maximum security and privacy online. Let’s dive in!

Start with your browsers.

This should potentially be your first step towards better privacy and security. Of course, there are many options, and it might be difficult to understand which one would protect you the most. To make it easier for you, we would recommend using Brave or Vivaldi browsers. Both of them were built with privacy in mind. We have experience using Brave, and it’s our favorite browser. Let us elaborate a bit more.

Brave blocks the ads by default. You may be using an extension for that now, however, with Brave there is no need for ad blockers. It is integrated into the browser. It also blocks the tracking scripts (e.g. Google Analytics, pixels, etc.). On top of these great features, you can even browse websites with TOR which is built in the browser. All of the cross-site cookies are also blocked by Brave. It is one of the best privacy-oriented browsers out there, in our opinion. Give it a try.

Pay with crypto, when you can.

Over the last few years, cryptocurrencies have become a popular financial instrument. No wonder why. Paying with crypto is fast, reliable, and secure. You don’t need extensive knowledge of the crypto industry to use it as a payment method. Today more businesses than ever accept crypto payments, and this number will continue to grow. Check out Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum, and see if any of those would be a match for your needs.

Use a secure VPN.

Another step you could take towards better personal privacy is to use a secure VPN. We recommend using a VPN every time you’re online. Of course, you could go for a service from most VPN providers, however, we recommend you buy a virtual server (e.g. with your crypto coins) and install a VPN server on your own. Why do that? This way you will make sure all of your information will stay confidential, and no logs will be collected or stored. If you’re not sure how to do it, you can always search for a tutorial online. One of the drawbacks is that it’s not so simple to switch locations and IP addresses when you have your own VPN server, but again, we’re talking about privacy here, and it is of a higher priority.

Do you use Signal?

Have you heard of any secure messaging applications like Signal? Being an open-source application with strong encryption, it would be our top choice. If you are looking for the most secure messaging application, give it a chance.

Enable 3DS for your cards.

It would never hurt to have an extra layer of security, but also it is simply needed for secure online shopping. When your 3DS is enabled, it will send you a confirmation code via SMS or application whenever you pay or purchase something online, which makes it much harder to use your card for fraudulence.

Secure your devices and stay cautious.

First of all, choose your OS wisely. It might be harder to get hacked if you use Linux or Mac, but not impossible. Always pay attention to the files you download or run on your computer. If you are a Windows user, use Windows Defender, it’s good software.

Revise who has access to your devices and limit this number to the minimum. Make sure you always know what kind of information you share, where you do it, and why. Check twice before providing a suspicious website with your personal information. Last but not least, use strong passwords with a good combination of letters, numbers, and special symbols.

While you might be familiar with most of the above-mentioned points, it is always good to double-check the things you might have missed. While you do not have to follow all of the tips, you should remember that each tip is a step towards better security and privacy online. Of course, it does not guarantee full bulletproof protection, but it will definitely provide you with better protection of your personal information.
