With state-of-the-art optical technology and innovations, the world of eye care is continually changing. From eye checking to surgical procedures, there are always new instruments or tests to treat optical problems. Along with new technologies in the optical field, digital eye charts are also available to test the vision of patients.

The eye care field has several important new technologies. These are scientific breakthroughs that will make a massive difference in the health of your eyes.

LASIK (Laser in-situ keratomileusis)

It is a famous surgical procedure to correct your vision problems. With LASIK, it is possible to reshape the cornea to modify the focusing power of eyes. LASIK is suitable to fix farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism. After reshaping the cornea through LASIK, the light can accurately travel through it and permits you to focus in a better. Laser surgeries may involve some pain. Surgeons may use numbing drops to relieve any discomfort.

Wavefront Analysis

With this technology, it is possible to measure how human eyes focus light and generate eye maps. It proves helpful for an ophthalmologist to diagnose the eye problems and determine the prescription of eyeglasses. Wavefront analyzers are useful to map deviations in eyes. It can detect different imperfections, such as higher and lower-order aberrations. These imperfections can affect the quality of vision and visual acuity.

The wavefront analyzer condenses the information of wavefront in conservative refraction in diopters and Zernike form. After this procedure, the map is transferred to the laser for the treatment of higher and lower order aberrations in the patient.

Argon Laser Treatment

Argon lasers are useful for the treatment of retinal tears. The laser marks the retina, therefore, it bonds to underlying tissues for prevention of retinal detachment. The green-wavelength laser is suitable for retinal therapy. Argon lasers induce energy in the patient’s retina. It is used to decrease swelling of the retina and create small scars to cauterize blood vessels. This procedure is performed in state-of-art laser facilities, and it is painless.

Femtosecond Laser

The use of laser is prohibited in cataract surgeries, but doctors find it safe and efficient to use femtosecond laser. If you are fearful of bladed surgical tools for your eyes, you can consider this bladeless LASIK. The ultrafast femtosecond laser can create a thin flap in the patient’s cornea. Now, doctors use an excimer laser to reshape underlying tissue of cornea to rectify your vision. Finally, the flap is returned to its actual position. In the presence of a femtosecond laser, an optical surgery is possible without microkeratome.

Glaucoma Surgery

Glaucoma is a family of eye diseases that can damage your optic nerves located in the back of your eyes. These nerves are responsible for relaying information from the eyes to your brain. Higher pressure in the eye creates stress on your optic nerve and may damage it causing vision loss.

Glaucoma patients can get the advantage of this surgery to replace customary eye drops used for the treatment of intraocular pressure. Through glaucoma surgery, it is possible to decrease the production of intraocular fluid and improve the drainage (outflow) of a similar fluid. The main objective of this treatment is to minimize or stabilize IOP (intraocular pressure). After accomplishing this goal, damage to the ocular structure can be prevented.
