Technologies that aim to prevent distracted driving

The number of car accidents caused by distracted driving continues to rise. That’s why many companies are developing new technologies to try and prevent these accidents.

Some of these technologies include in-vehicle systems that can disable your phone, apps that track your actions behind the wheel, and even sensors that detect when the driver is not paying attention.

This written test covers the rules of the road and safe driving practices. This road test assesses the applicant’s ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

While some of these technologies are still in development, they have the potential to make our roads much safer.

There are a number of apps available for smartphones that can silence incoming calls and texts while the car is in motion. This can help minimize the temptation to pick up the phone while driving.

Lane departure warning systems

This warning system uses laser radar technology to detect if the car is veering to the other lane. When the AI is sure that the car is drifting, it will emit a warning sound or vibration to alert the driver.

External systems

Another type of technology that is being developed is an external system that would block cell phone signals when a car is in motion.

Other external systems being developed include those that would emit a loud noise or bright light when a car is detected to be driven erratically.

This would alert the driver to the fact that they are driving dangerously and hopefully prevent an accident from occurring.

Intelligent speed adaptation

Intelligent speed adaptation is an AI that uses GPS to detect the speed limit of the road the vehicle is traveling on and then automatically adjusts the car’s speed to stay within the limit.

This can help prevent speeding and accidents caused by speeding.

Alcohol detection systems

Alcohol detection systems use sensors to detect the presence of alcohol on the driver’s breath. If the system detects a high level of alcohol, it can take action to prevent the driver from operating the vehicle, such as disabling the ignition.

Blind spot detection systems

They use sensors to detect cars in the driver’s blind spot. If the system detects a car, it will emit a warning sound or vibration to alert the driver.

Automated emergency braking

They provide a live video feed behind the car. This can help drivers see if there is a car in their blind spot before changing lanes.

These technologies range from in-vehicle systems that can detect when a driver is distracted and alert them, to phone apps that can block incoming calls and texts while a person is driving.
