The PlayStation 4 is an awesome console, full of many great games. It’s also a powerful console and can run gorgeous games like No Man’s Sky and Red Dead Redemption 2.

But have you ever been playing one of these graphically-intensive games and noticed your PlayStation 4 getting louder and louder? Sounds a bit like a jet engine, doesn’t it? This begs the question:

Why does my PlayStation 4 sound like a jet engine?

  • Short answer: Dust and heavy loads

One of the main culprits of a loud PlayStation 4 is simply too much dust around your fans. You see, there’s a lot of tech in that little box, but keeping that slim profile means small, but powerful places for fans and vents.

You can clean these fans, but you’ll need to take apart your console. Do this at your own risk. Some models are easier to work with than others, so make sure to find a guide that matches your PlayStation 4 model.

If you aren’t ready to make the jump to product repair, a can of compressed air can help clear the vents of dust buildup.

Past that, some of that loudness is simply inevitable. The PlayStation 4 Pro is a bit quieter under heavy strain, but graphically-intensive games will likely still cause your console to get a bit louder. Clean vents should keep it from reaching “jet engine” status, however.
