It’s been over a year since I last played Destiny. I quit soon after I got my second exotic weapon, Gjallarhorn. I must have done something stupid to it because when I went back into the game, I only have my first weapon, but if I decided to play again, now would be the perfect chance to recover my missing weapon. You see, the weekend’s tentacle-faced peddler of exotic wares, Xur, is selling Gjallarhorn for the second time since the launch of the game. No this isn’t just a big deal, this is the biggest deal.
To be fair, Bungie did announce that once The Taken King hits next month, they are going to add some foam padding to Gjallarhorn to tame the severe power spike that the rocket launcher delivers likely nerfing it to kingdom come. Now, you are probably asking yourself a few questions, like “Why is this such a big deal?” or “What makes Gjallarhorn so powerful?” and I actually have an answer for you. Gjallarhorn initially operates like your typical run-of-the-mill rocket launcher, that is until one of its rockets make contact with an enemy. Once that happens, the rockets split into mini-rockets and proceed to pelt the daylights out of the original and surrounding enemies. A single well-aimed shot can effectively double or triple the damage on your target. Rocket launchers do a lot of damage as is and ammo is scarce, so having this trump card with make the grind to prepare for The Taken King laughable.
The buck doesn’t stop there, though. Xur will leave his spot in the depths of the Tower (by the jukebox, fyi) and remove Gjallarhorn from has list of items for all of eternity, or until he sells it again sometime a year from now. The excitement is so huge that r/DestinyTheGame has completely devolved into… something not resembling a Destiny subreddit. By the time you read this, you’ll probably have a little over 24 hours to get out there and make sure your have 17 Strange Coins to hand over to Xur, or simply go without until the next majorly over powered weapon becomes available.
Good luck!
