The concept is ridiculous and it took all of two minutes for me to fall in love with the arcade beat-em-up, pizza delivery game.
You pilot a customized giant mech that has one purpose for its existence – delivery hot, delicious pizza to patrons, regardless of the damage incurred to the city around you. And there will be damage, friends. Whole neighborhoods will crumble in your wake as you race the clock to reach your objectives.
Time is not the only competition you’ll face, as aliens will drop from the heavens occasionally to thwart your pizza efforts. These fall easily at first thanks to your bag of punches and kicks, but as time goes on, aliens will come in greater numbers and abilities and gamers will find themselves juggling fighting and delivering, trying to maximize the money they are making without dying to said aliens.
The style of the game is right from an arcade and in the best possible ways. Colors are bright, sound effects boom and the game uses a unique art style for its story elements, with characters that look straight from the 80s and 90s as far as style goes.
Controls in the game are slightly clunky at first, but it does not take long to feel comfortable with sprinting and rolling around the fully destructible environments. There will be 32 missions available and “4 hours of Saturday morning level entertainment” for a campaign of VIP (Very Important Pizza) deliveries.
Pizza Titan Ultra is scheduled for a Steam release, but one of the developers at PAX East did say they are looking into console releases for the future.
