In recent years, wearables was a field in great expansion, albeit not as fast as many thought. Vuzix produces several great wearables, boosting the market.

A few years ago, the world of wearables (and, especially, glasses) was on fire, especially after Google’s strong move with Project Glass. While this project raised high expectations, it failed to meet them and the industry took a hit, leading to little new and innovative products.

But there is a company with an important role in the industry’s pace, constantly creating and rolling out new and innovative products. Vuzix, a market leader, develops smart-glasses, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies, and products for the consumer and enterprise markets.

Vuzix was founded 20 years ago, and has now located in three continents, with offices in New York, Oxford and Tokyo. Its products are a success, with the company selling the world’s first commercially available smart glasses. It features 5 models of smart glasses (M models), and the iWear Video Headphones, which are suitable for mobile entertainment and VR, as well as drone piloting.

One of the strengths of Vuzix’s devices is their ability to be customized to a wide array of enterprises – telemedicine, remote assistance, warehousing, utilities and manufacturing are just some examples.

Other than the apps they come pre-installed with, Vuzix’s smart glasses are compatible with most existing Android apps, with developer resources available for those aiming to create custom apps to serve their specific needs.
In fact, the iWear device was awarded the CES 2016 Best of Innovation Award, in the Gaming & Virtual Reality category. The M3000 Smart Glasses were also honored, with CES Innovation Awards for innovative design and engineering.

Vuzix was present in CES 2017 where Blade 3000, the brand’s upcoming and revolutionary product, received four International CES Innovation 2017 awards. They are the world’s first smart sunglasses, featuring integrated video and AR overlays. GPS mapping directions, restaurant menus, weather information, alerts and more are available, thanks to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

With this degree of innovation, Vuzix surely has a leading position in the wearables and smart glasses industries. If its pace continues, then the brand might be essential to set the path for the field’s future, playing an important role there.
