Mozilla solves the problem nobody asked for with shake to summarize
Shake it up! Mozilla’s new “Shake to Summarize” feature on iOS is here to revolutionize your reading experience. With a simple shake of your iPhone, get instant AI-generated summaries of any webpage.

Mozilla just dropped one of the most unhinged feature updates of 2025: Shake your iPhone to get AI summaries of whatever webpage you’re reading.
The company launched “Shake to Summarize on iOS to give you a clear summary with one move,” Mozilla writes in a blog post. “That way, you can get what you need more easily and keep going.”
Starting this week, Firefox’s new “Shake to Summarize” feature turns your iPhone into a digital Magic 8-Ball for the internet.
Got a 3,000-word thinkpiece about crypto that you absolutely should read but definitely won’t? Just give your phone a shake and—boom—AI-generated cliff notes appear faster than you can say “didn’t read.”
How It Works
The feature leverages Apple’s on-device AI wizardry on iPhone 15 Pro and newer models running iOS 18. If you’re rocking an older iPhone, Mozilla’s cloud-based AI will handle the heavy lifting instead.

Don’t Feel Like Shaking?
For the shake-averse, there’s also a boring old thunderbolt icon in the address bar and a menu option, because not everyone wants to look like they’re having a seizure while browsing.
A Few Catches
- It only works on pages under 5,000 words
- It’s currently U.S.-only
- Your favorite 47-part Twitter thread dissertations are safe—for now
The bigger picture: Firefox just became one of the first major third-party apps to play nice with Apple Intelligence. That’s arguably more impressive than the shake gimmick itself.
Sure, you can turn it off if you hate fun—but why would you?
Global rollout and Android support coming eventually, whenever Mozilla feels like it.
