Remember as kids when our parents told us that we were sitting too close to the TV and that it would ruin our vision? I never listened and because of that, my vision is horrible.

Fast forward to today and the main culprit now is smartphones. Which is why Samsung has developed an app that will warn kids when they’re holding a smartphone too close to their face.

Samsung Safety Screen The app is free and is available only on Android. The app utilizes facial recognition software to sense when someone is holding a smartphone too close to their eyes. When the phone gets too close for comfort, the app displays a warning in the form of a cute animation (pictured right). From there, the screen goes black. Once the phone is set to a safer distance, the screen comes back alive.

Parents can even set a password so kids can’t disable the app.
