In a recent update from Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, it’s been revealed that the Apple Watch won’t be getting full-onboard Apple Intelligence anytime soon. However, that doesn’t mean AI is completely off the table.
Instead, the watch will be receiving some smart features that use Apple’s AI technology, though the AI itself will be running on other devices like the iPhone or in the cloud, not directly on the watch.
While these updates won’t dramatically change how the Apple Watch works, they are expected to freshen things up with some interface tweaks and give users a small preview of the bigger changes Apple is planning across its product line.
Gurman says Apple will share more about these updates at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in June.
The spotlight of the event will be on Apple Intelligence and something called Solarium, which is the codename for a new design style coming to iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Though specifics weren’t confirmed, earlier reports hint that the Apple Watch might get smarter notification summaries and possibly a long-awaited revamp of Siri, which may roll out later through a software update.
Gurman also teased that Apple is looking to upgrade the hardware of the Apple Watch in the next couple of years, although no exact timeline was shared.
One possibility is that future models could include AI-powered cameras, possibly taking inspiration from Meta’s smart glasses.
These camera features could also make their way into AirPods. Although we don’t know exactly when all of this will happen, it’s clear that Apple is speeding up its research to stay competitive in the AI space.
We’ll likely get more concrete details at the WWDC in June, with new features rolling out gradually afterward.
While the Apple Watch isn’t getting a massive leap forward, subtle improvements powered by AI are coming to the Apple Watch.
