Canva wants to be your all-in-one creative AI design tool

Most of the new AI features sit behind a premium paywall, and there’s no way to pick and choose which features you actually want.

Canva’s having a glow-up, and this time, it’s thinking bigger than posters and PowerPoints.

The company just dropped a batch of new digital marketing and video-editing tools, all powered by what it’s calling a “world-first design-focused AI model.”

These upgrades are part of Canva’s new vision for its platform: a so-called “Creative Operating System” for marketing teams.

Now, before you panic, no, Canva isn’t suddenly building laptops. “Operating system” here is more marketing poetry than tech literalism.

It’s Canva’s way of saying, “We run your entire creative workflow now.”

Co-founder Cameron Adams told The Verge that the name “just really resonated” with the team because Canva has evolved beyond being a single app.

It wants to be where your entire marketing department lives.

The overhaul includes a shiny new video editor that doesn’t require Final Cut-level skills. Think drag, drop, trim, and sync with a side of pre-made templates.

Canva also added a Forms feature, basically Google Forms in Canva clothing, that pipes feedback straight into Canva Sheets for easy data wrangling.

But the real star is Canva Grow, a marketing hub that lets you design, launch, and track ad campaigns without ever leaving the platform.

Its AI even learns from campaign performance, meaning your next ad could (theoretically) be smarter than your first.

There’s also a new Email Design tool, so you can build fancy newsletters without touching HTML or hopping over to Mailchimp.

All of this runs on Canva’s new in-house AI model, which the company swears “understands the complexity of design.” (Take that, ChatGPT.)

The catch? Most of the new AI bells and whistles sit behind a premium paywall, and there’s no way to pick and choose which features you actually want.

Canva’s transformation from scrappy design tool to all-in-one creative suite is impressive, if a little overwhelming.

It’s less “make a flyer for your bake sale” and more “run your entire marketing empire from one browser tab.”

Whether that’s liberating or exhausting probably depends on how many tabs you already have open.
