Keychron is pushing mechanical keyboards further with the new Q Ultra series, and the headline feature is legitimately industry-changing: these are the first ZMK-based keyboards to hit mass production.

For those unfamiliar, ZMK is an open-source wireless firmware that keyboard enthusiasts have been waiting for Keychron to implement for years.

Well, it’s finally here, and it comes with some impressive specs to back it up.

What You’re Getting

The Q Ultra series launches in three layouts—all with the same core features:

  • Q6 Ultra (100% — $239.99)
  • Q3 Ultra (TKL — $229.99)
  • Q1 Ultra (75% — $229.99)

All three feature:

  • 660-hour battery life (8K wireless mode)—the longest in its class
  • 8K polling rate in 2.4G wireless and wired connection
  • Keychron Silk POM switches—new material that delivers better acoustics and typing feel
  • Full metal (aluminum) construction
  • Double-gasket design for improved stability
  • KSA double-shot PBT keycaps
  • Acoustic foams for sound tuning
  • MCU 1MB Flash for a more stable, reliable wireless connection
  • Fully customizable keys

The specs read like a wishlist of mechanical keyboard features, but the real standout is the ZMK firmware combined with that battery life. You’re looking at a keyboard that won’t need charging for months.

Availability

All three models launch January 6 at 7 AM PT and are available directly from Keychron.com. If you’re heading to CES, Keychron will be exhibiting at LVCC South Hall 1, Booth #30547, starting January 6.

This is one of the most significant keyboard launches we’ve seen in a while. ZMK finally being available in a production keyboard is a big deal for the community.
