Your not-so-typical SEO Twitter rant by Lyndon Antcliff
When it comes to SEO, Lyndon Antcliff doesn’t hold back from speaking his mind. This Twitter rant is a perfect example.

Just a heads up, if you buy something through our links, we may get a small share of the sale. It’s one of the ways we keep the lights on here. Click here for more.
I don’t usually write about SEO (search engine optimization) on this blog, but when I do, I make sure the content is stellar. This is where Lyndon Antcliff comes in.
I met Lyndon a few years back in London at one of the many SEO conferences that are held annually. Lyndon didn’t know me at the time, but he welcomed my questions with open arms. We naturally hit it off.
Lyndon has a good pulse on the SEO industry, one of the reasons is because he’s able to form his own opinion and not base something off a regurgitated blog post that he read somewhere.
Point I’m trying to make here, when Lyndon speaks, people should listen. His recent Twitter rant is the perfect example of what I’m talking about:
Take a look for yourself (listen to accompanied soundtrack for optimal results):
It's quite clear how Google works these days. Problem is most SEOs do not have the skills to adapt to the new ways.

The point isn't gaming Google, that is only a means to an end. The point is to get the right people to your published information.

Obsessing over what version of black and white Antartic bird Google is munching on is pure distraction from the job in hand

Playing the Google game is no longer the only game in town. Many ways to get the hungry crowd to our websites. Don't just focus on SEO
— Lyndon Antcliff (@lyndoman) October 30, 2014
Trouble is, the SEO mindset is about how to use Google to get people to go to crap websites and then click/buy/pick their nose etc.
— Lyndon Antcliff (@lyndoman) October 30, 2014
Correction, it's "mostly" to get people to go to crap websites 🙂 +1 for the pedants
— Lyndon Antcliff (@lyndoman) October 30, 2014
Of course, the SEO industry has blogs, confs, tools to sell, based on giving the industry what it thinks it needs. Not what it actually does

Being ahead of the pack means you are always going to going in a different direction than the majority.

I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, but this is a good comment. The things we gotta do to get some engagement, huh? cc: @FreeHamJobs:disqus
