So, you’ve decided that you’re ready to dive into the vaping world.  Exciting times ahead!  This article will break down everything you need to know before you buy your first vape so you can make an informed decision.

Not all vapes are created equal

There are two main types of vaporizers: desktop vapes and portable vapes, and each type has other variations along with it. If you’re primarily smoking on-the-go, then a portable vape will be best.  You can easily slip these into your pocket and pull them out for a quick toke while you’re strolling around town.  Here’s a link to some of the best portable vaporizers on the market.

On the other hand, desktop vapes aren’t meant to move around much.  They’re larger, more powerful, and have more versatile functionality.

When you’re ready to start browsing products, this vaporizer store and comparison list will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the market.

Think about the type of herb you want to use

Do you want to vape herb? Oils?  Concentrates? Wax?  There are a ton of options!  And each vape is designed to handle a certain type of herb.  You don’t want to make the mistake of buying an oil vape if your buddy is constantly sharing fresh herb with you!

Are you a social smoker or will you primarily be alone?

If you usually vape when you’re out with your friends, then you’ll probably want what’s known as a session vape. Session vapes only heat material for a specific amount of time when you turn them on.  These are designed for smoking in groups and can be easily passed around.

Then there are on-demand vapes.  These are best if you just want to take a small hit here and there (i.e. microdosing). You’ll conserve more material and vape it more efficiently.  If you’re going to vape alone, these are a much better option.

Figure out your budget beforehand

Vapes can vary in price significantly. You could spend $20 on a cheap, portable vape or you could dish out a couple hundred bucks for a complex home rig. Once you figure out your budget, you can more easily hone in on the best option.

The difference between convection and conduction

All vapes have a small chamber where you’ll put your herb, oil, or wax. However, vapes don’t all use the same burning mechanism.

Convection vapes will heat air and filter it through the vape chamber to vaporize your herb.  Convection vapes are better at yielding an even vape of the material in the chamber.  The vaping community is also in agreement that convection vapes produce higher quality, tastier vapor.  The downside here is that you’ll likely have to clean the inside of it regularly. It’s common for the vape contents to melt into the screen and sides of the chamber, leading to bad-tasting vapor or even causing the vape to stop working completely.

Conduction vapes have a heating element inside them that has to physically touch the herb to vape it.  These give you instantaneous temperature control, are less expensive, and are generally more user-friendly.  Conduction vapes used to be the staple choice, but now with convection vapes getting more sophisticated, they are the preferred choice among vaping enthusiasts.

  1. Maintenance will be required
Vapes are more complex than traditional pieces, so they require a bit more upkeep. Whichever vape you buy, be sure to read the instructions carefully and perform any recommended maintenance regularly.  That way you’ll be able to enjoy your new vape for years to come.
  2. Just because you have a vape doesn’t mean you can smoke everywhere!
It’s important to note that vapes can’t be used everywhere. Bars, cafes, airplanes, etc. all have smoking rules that you still have to follow. Follow the rules and enjoy your vape where you can legally.
  3. People might make fun of you
While this is less of an issue now, it’s something you’ll probably come across in your vaping journey. As they say, haters gonna hate.  The vaping community is growing every day and all stigmas associated with it are fading in the process.
  4. Vaping is A LOT healthier for you
You probably knew this already, but it’s always worth highlighting. Traditional smoking exposes your lungs to a slew of harmful carcinogens and burned material.  We won’t go into too much detail here, but the studies are piling up in defense of vaporizers.  Buying a vape for yourself is a great way to protect your health and still enjoy the effects of smoking.
  5. Don’t forget to do your research!
There are millions of people vaping around the world and frankly, there’s no better way to know how well a vape works than by hearing it directly from the vapers themselves. A vaporizer review can say a lot, so be sure to read a bunch of them before making your decision.
