LG Display made headlines at CES 2025 not by showcasing new screens but by announcing its fourth-generation OLED panel.

Despite an understated presence at CES, the panel is already featured in 2025 flagship TVs like Panasonic’s Z95B and LG Electronics’ G5.

Now, LG Display has officially detailed its features — a 33 percent brightness boost over its predecessor, which makes it the industry’s first OLED display capable of reaching a maximum brightness of 4,000 nits.

At the core of this advancement is the Primary RGB Tandem structure, a proprietary technology.

Unlike previous three-stack designs, which featured two blue layers alongside a single red, green, and yellow layer, the new design incorporates four stacks. (via: Digital Trends)

It achieves this by adding a second set of blue layers and creating independent layers for red and green.

This refinement allows each layer to produce more light, significantly enhancing maximum brightness and energy efficiency.

While brightness has improved across the board, the panel is optimized for the “AI TV era,” though LG Display’s emphasis on AI features feels more marketing-oriented.

Nonetheless, its energy efficiency gains and a 40 percent increase in color brightness—reaching up to 2,100 nits—underline genuine performance improvements.

Importantly, these figures represent peak capabilities, and individual manufacturers, like Panasonic, may calibrate the displays differently for consumer models.

LG Display faces stiff competition from Samsung Display, whose QD-OLED panels, featured in the Samsung S95F, boast superior brightness and a glare-free finish.

In contrast, LG Display sticks to a glossy finish, incorporating ultra-low reflective technology to reduce visual distractions.

Both brands contribute to offering the best, brightest OLED panel, striving for vivid visuals without sacrificing core strengths like perfect blacks, wide viewing angles, and fast response times.

OLED technology continues to advance, offering more vibrant and brighter displays while maintaining its premium status.
