Some users of ChatGPT have recently noticed a new feature called “Study Together” showing up in their list of tools.
While OpenAI hasn’t made an official announcement about it, early users say it looks like a feature designed to help people learn by doing, rather than just getting quick answers.
Instead of simply responding with information when asked a question, “Study Together” seems to flip the script.
The chatbot starts asking the user questions, almost like a teacher or tutor would and expects them to try answering.
This more interactive style of learning could help students better understand the material, rather than just copying answers.
Some people also think this feature might include a group study mode, where multiple users can join the same chat and learn together with the help of ChatGPT. (Via: TechCrunch)
That hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the name “Study Together” hints at the possibility.
So far, it’s not clear who will get access to this tool.
ChatGPT itself has said that OpenAI hasn’t announced if “Study Together” will be available to everyone or only to ChatGPT Plus (the paid version) subscribers.
The idea behind this new tool likely comes from the growing use of ChatGPT in education, both in good and bad ways.
On the positive side, teachers use it to help with lesson planning, and students use it as a virtual tutor.
On the downside, some students use it to write entire papers or do their homework, which raises concerns about cheating and learning loss.
Some educators even worry it could hurt the value of higher education altogether.
By shifting ChatGPT into a more interactive learning tool, the “Study Together” feature might be OpenAI’s way of encouraging students to actually learn, not just copy answers.
Whether it becomes widely available or turns into a full group study platform remains to be seen, but it’s clear that ChatGPT is exploring how to become a more responsible and helpful tool for education.
