Google recently released a new AI model called Gemini 2.5 Pro, which they claim is their smartest version yet.

Initially, it was announced that this upgraded AI would only be available to people who subscribe to Gemini Advanced, a paid version of the service.

However, Google surprised users by also launching a special experimental version of the model for free.

Right now, this version is only available on the web, meaning people can try it out by visiting gemini.google.com from their computer or mobile browser.

This move is a bit unexpected because Google had just stated that the model would be exclusive to paying users.

While free users can now access it, Google has not said when or if it will officially roll out to smartphone apps.

They have, however, mentioned that they are “working hard” to bring it to all mobile users in the future.

Some Gemini Advanced subscribers are frustrated by this decision. They pay for extra features, so giving a version of the AI for free seems unfair to them.

However, Google clarified that paid subscribers still get certain advantages, such as a larger context window (which means the AI can remember and process more information at once) and fewer restrictions on how often they can use it.

Free users, on the other hand, have limits on the number of questions they can ask.

This isn’t the first time Google has made a previously paid feature available to non-paying users.

For example, earlier in the year, they allowed free users to upload files for AI analysis, a feature that had previously been exclusive to paying customers.

The Gemini 2.5 Pro experimental model is worth trying because it has improved reasoning skills, making it better at understanding complex questions and answering logically.

It also excels at coding, math, and science, outperforming many competing AI models in industry benchmarks.
