Reddit is done playing second fiddle to Google search.

According to The Verge, CEO Steve Huffman told investors the company is pouring resources into turning Reddit into a “go-to search engine.”

Why? Because hundreds of millions now hit Reddit every week for real advice and opinions, and the platform wants those users sticking around instead of bouncing back to Google.

Here’s where it gets wild: Reddit isn’t just tweaking its old search bar. It’s globally rolling out Reddit Answers, an AI-powered feature that mines the best, weirdest, and most useful takes straight from the community.

As Search Engine Journal reports, Reddit Answers has shot up to 6 million weekly users—a fivefold jump in just a few months. Now, Reddit is rolling out this tool worldwide and making it the backbone of how people navigate the site.

All this is happening while Google’s search is getting more robotic and less reliable, sometimes pushing Reddit down the results page.

So, as 9to5Google notes, Reddit’s bold move is a hedge: if Google stops sending traffic, Reddit’s own turbocharged search could keep the party going.

Reddit just turned 20, but instead of settling down, it’s shaking up the internet’s pecking order. Huffman’s betting the house on crowdsourced smarts—and if it works, the way we search online might never be the same.

Will AI-powered features like Reddit Answers change how you search for information online—or do you still trust Google more? We’d love to hear your take! Drop a comment below, or join the conversation with us on Facebook or Twitter.
