Grand Theft Auto VI fans are in for yet another wait: Rockstar Games has pushed the highly anticipated title back by six months, now eyeing a release date of November 19, 2026.
This marks the second major delay after the game’s original fall 2025 window slipped earlier this year.
According to Polygon, Rockstar explained the extra time is needed to achieve a level of polish that meets fan expectations, with company head Strauss Zelnick touting GTA 6 as potentially “the most extraordinary title anyone’s ever seen in the history of entertainment.”
As first announced by Rockstar Games, the studio apologized for prolonging an already lengthy wait but promised the additional months will pay off when players finally return to Vice City.
Behind the scenes, the company has been rocked by controversy: dozens of Rockstar employees in the UK were recently fired.
Game Informer reports that while a local union accused Rockstar of “union-busting,” the studio claims those staffers were terminated for leaking confidential information, not for organizing.
As reported by Video Games Chronicle, both Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive maintain that the layoffs and the game’s latest delay are unrelated.
Despite the setbacks, Rockstar is adamant that the wait will be worthwhile. The studio thanked fans for their patience and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering what it hopes will be an unforgettable blockbuster.
