Snapchat just pushed out an update today that tracks all your friends’ locations on a map right within the app. Extremely creepy, I know, but the good news is that the new feature is totally optional.
The company is calling it SnapMap and it basically records your location anytime you open the app. An avatar or bitmoji (the company is calling them Actionmojis) is displayed at your current location and tells other users when and where you last snapped. Actionmojis only update when you open Snapchat, the company says in a blog post.
To access the map, just launch the app like you normally would. Don’t go to the home screen, instead, pretend you’re going to take a picture. But instead of zooming in, pinch to zoom out and the map will be displayed.
Again, it’s completely up to you if you want to share your location with friends. If not, you can keep it to yourself with Ghost Mode.
