Snapchat is launching a new feature that brings AI-generated video effects to its platform.

These effects, called Video Gen AI Lenses, allow users to improve their Snaps with animations created by AI.

However, this feature is currently only available to those who subscribe to Snapchat+ Platinum, which costs $14.99/month.

The AI-powered video lenses work similarly to Snapchat’s existing Lenses but with a significant upgrade: they generate dynamic, AI-powered effects in real time.

At launch, there are only three options:

  1. Raccoon Lens: It adds animated raccoons to your video.
  2. Fox Lens: It places a red fox peeking over your shoulder.
  3. Spring Flowers Lens: It covers the screen with colorful flowers while zooming out for a cinematic effect.

Snapchat also plans to release new AI video lenses every week. However, it is unclear whether users will eventually be able to create their own video AI lenses, like Snapchat filters.

For those interested in customization, Snapchat already offers Lens Studio, a free toolkit that allows users to create their own Lenses.

The Lens Studio includes AI-powered tools where users can generate filters using text or image prompts. Lens Studio also has an AI assistant to help users design their own effects.

If you subscribe to Snapchat+ Platinum, you’ll have access to these AI video lenses and enjoy an ad-free experience in the Lens and Story sections.

The AI video lenses will appear first when you open the Lens carousel in the Snapchat app. They work with both the front and rear cameras.

While the AI processes your video, you can continue using Snapchat for other tasks like chatting or recording new snaps. Once the video is ready, it will be saved automatically in the Memories tab.

You can share these AI-generated Snaps to your Stories, Spotlight, or send them directly to friends, just like regular Snaps.

Do you still use Snapchat? Do you like this new feature, and would you get Snapchat+ Platinum for it? Tell us your thoughts below in the comments or via our Twitter or Facebook.
