Just a day after being taken offline, TikTok has returned to the US.
The social media platform became accessible again after former President Donald Trump pledged to issue an executive order on Monday following his inauguration which would reinstate the app.
The platform went offline Saturday night, and a message notified users of its unavailability due to a ban in the country.
The notice also mentioned Trump’s willingness to work on a solution to bring TikTok back, urging users to “stay tuned.”
TikTok makes a comeback in the US! (sort of)
Shortly after, Trump announced via his social media platform, Truth Social, a temporary 90-day extension before the ban is enforced.
This extension aims to allow time to finalize an agreement with an American buyer.
Trump proposed a 50-50 ownership structure between TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, and the new owner.
This term marks a notable shift in Trump’s stance, as he had previously supported a TikTok ban during his earlier presidency.
Reports suggest that this reversal has sparked debate within Trump’s inner circle, with some party members opposing the extension.
Although TikTok is temporarily operational in the US, its future remains uncertain. If a buyer is not secured within the designated timeframe, the app faces the possibility of another ban.
Two potential buyers, including PerplexityAI, have submitted bids, while other unnamed companies have also expressed interest.
The situation continues to unfold with complexity, as the temporary rescue has not resolved the broader issue of TikTok’s ownership and security concerns.
A final settlement will be required to guarantee the platform’s permanence in the US.

Currently, TikTok greets users with a message crediting Trump for its restoration: “Welcome back! As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the US!”
However, despite its return, the app is still unavailable on the Apple App Store and Google Play, limiting access for new users or those needing to reinstall.
