The iPhone 16 series made its debut last month, offering considerable upgrades over the last-gen iPhone lineup.

With the iPhone 16 family out, we’re already hearing rumors about what to expect from the next iPhone lineup, the iPhone 17 series.

A report surfaced online suggesting that all iPhone models will feature a ProMotion display, including the vanilla iPhone 17 model.

If true, the standard and Plus models will finally switch to a smoother 120Hz refresh rate panel.

Apple has only offered the more advanced 120Hz ProMotion features with the Pro models for a few generations, limiting the standard models to an outdated 60Hz refresh rate.

It seems like Apple is finally ready to switch to 120Hz ProMotion displays for the vanilla and Plus models with the iPhone 17 series.

A new report from South Korea’s ETNews, citing an industry source, suggests that Apple will use 120Hz ProMotion panels with all the iPhone 17 series members, including the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus.

The report also says that the iPhone 17 series will feature an LTPO panel made by Samsung and LG to support adaptive refresh rate technology. This panel uses low-power technology to offer a variable refresh rate with less power consumption.

In 2021, Apple announced the ProMotion feature for the iPhone 13 series, which offers 120Hz refresh rate support on iOS but limited the feature to the Pro models. At the time, the refresh rate could go down to 10Hz to save battery.

However, the company upgraded it with the iPhone 14 Pro models, making it go as low as 1Hz, which is still the case with the latest iPhone 16 Pro models. Apple seems to plan to offer something similar with all the iPhone 17 models by incorporating LTPO panels for the lineup.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the iPhone 17 series featuring ProMotion on all models. Display analyst Ross Young also previously said the feature is coming to all iPhone 17 models.

What do you think about the 120Hz ProMotion feature going mainstream on iPhones? Would you still buy the Pro models? Tell us your thoughts in the comments, or via our Twitter or Facebook.
