I don’t know about you, but the 80’s child in me, who spent lots of time reading comic books, absolutely yearned for Dick Tracy’s watch to be a real thing. Of course, back then the technology wasn’t there. Now, with the magic of Bluetooth and cellular, those young fever dreams have come true. The officially-licensed Dick Tracy watch just finished its successful Indiegogo campaign, blowing past 269% of their target.

In fact, the Dick Tracy team, Joe Staton and Mike Curtis, loved the model so much they drew it into the strip! If that’s not a rousing endorsement, I don’t know what is.

A 316L stainless steel case protects the watch, as befitting the square-jawed detective. Bluetooth connects to any smartphone to turn the speaker into a speakerphone and also enables you to use the watch as your voice assistant. Talking into my wrist makes more sense to me than just talking into thin air. No word on how long it will take for them to hit the storefront now that the crowdfunding campaign is over, there was a limited run of 1,000, so by my count, there should be a fair few that make it onto the storefront.

The watch will likely be $499 when available to buy, Indiegogo backers got a 25% discount off this price. There was also some bundles with a copy of Dick Tracy’s classic fedora, I wonder if those will also be on the storefront.

Shipping for the backed watches is supposed to start in December.
