3D printing is hitting the mainstream with a trial run at Home Depots in a handful of US cities.

3D printers will be coming to a Home Depot near you, starting this week.
MakerBot, one of the best-known manufacturers of 3D printers, will be one of the lucky companies to get shelf space at the retail giant. However, only a dozen locations in New York, Illinois and California will carry 3D printers as part of a pilot program
“It’s a pilot for us to test a potential disruptive technology, and to make sure we are on the forefront of a new innovative product,” Joe Downey, an online merchant at Atlanta-based Home Depot told Bloomberg in an interview.
This is huge for the 3D printing world, opening up what has, until now, been a niche market.
