Today, Meta announced its new Edits app amid the TikTok ban debacle in the United States, resulting in the popular mobile video editing app CapCut going offline.
However, in a surprising twist, TikTok is in the process of being restored in the United States, at least temporarily, while CapCut may be gone for good.
Meanwhile, Meta’s new mobile-based video editing platform, announced surprise mid-Sunday, is here to fill the void.
Edits coming to iOS in February, while its Android availability remains a mystery
The announcement comes directly from Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram in Threads.
In the post, Mosseri describes the new Edits app as an important tool for those who love to make videos on their phones.

He also said, “There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators.” He likely referred to the US ban on TikTok and CapCut.
Either way, Meta’s new video editing tool isn’t available yet. Still, we know that the Edits app is going to pack the following features, courtesy of Adam Mosseri’s post on Threads:
- A dedicated inspiration tab
- Additional tab to keep track of your videos
- All the AI tools you would need and expect
- A higher-quality camera for shooting quality videos
- The functionality to share drafts with friends and others
- Easy export to Instagram
- Powerful insight for creating Reels
Other than these features, we don’t have much to go on. Hopefully, Meta will reveal more details in the coming weeks.
The Edits app is available for pre-order in the App Store, and according to Meta, the app will be available on the iOS platform sometime in February. However, the App Store listing says “March.”
Unfortunately, no specific timeline was mentioned for Android.
