Apple officially boots Tea and TeaOnHer from the App Store

A new contender “TeaOnHer and Him – Overheard” is already climbing the charts on App Store after the ban.

Apple just served up some piping hot drama, and not the kind you’d find on a dating app.

The company has officially booted Tea and TeaOnHer from the App Store, citing violations of its rules on content moderation, privacy, and (let’s be real) general decency.

Both apps, which went viral earlier this year for letting users “review” their exes and potential dates, are now gone from Apple’s marketplace, though they’re still clinging to life on Google Play.

The apps’ sudden disappearance was first spotted by analytics firm Appfigures, which told TechCrunch that Apple pulled the plug on Tuesday in every market.

When reached for comment, Apple confirmed the takedown, saying Tea Dating Advice and TeaOnHer had racked up a flood of user complaints, including reports of minors’ personal data being posted

The company said it warned the developers, but the issues weren’t fixed. Cue the banhammer.

The decision references three of Apple’s App Review Guidelines: Rule 1.2 (apps must let users report and block content), Rule 5.1.2 (don’t share personal info without permission), and Rule 5.6 (don’t rack up an avalanche of one-star reviews and call it a day).

The Tea apps, it seems, broke all three.

Tea first popped up in 2023 as a “dating safety” tool for women, think Yelp for men, and exploded in 2025 thanks to viral TikToks and screenshots.

Users could flag guys as “green” or “red” flags and leave reviews about their dating history, complete with photos and personal details.

Naturally, many men weren’t thrilled about being publicly graded like produce.

Things got worse when the app suffered a massive data breach this summer, leaking 72,000 images, including selfies, IDs, and private messages.

Not to be outdone, TeaOnHer launched as the revenge spin-off for men, but it too flopped after TechCrunch revealed its own data leak.

Before being pulled, Tea hit 6.1 million downloads and $5 million in revenue; TeaOnHer hit 2.2 million downloads.

But with both off the App Store, a new contender, TeaOnHer and Him – Overheard, is already climbing the charts.

Because apparently, drama (and oversharing) never die, they just find a new app.
