Would you return a valuable item of tech if you found it with a sticker on it reading ‘For good karma, contact my owner’?

Would you return a valuable item of tech if you found it with a sticker on it reading ‘For good karma, contact my owner’?

We have all experienced it before, the shrill horror of realizing you lost your phone. What do you do? One thing that can help is by having an app that allows you to track your phone if you ever lost it. However, these apps only work when your phone is powered on. What happens when the battery runs out? Well, there’s one company looking to change that, TechTagger.

“When electronic products’ batteries die, retrieval apps are often rendered useless,” said Katelyn Gray, Nonprofit Manager at MyAssetTag.com. “We’re happy to offer a solution that works even after the lost gadget’s charge runs out.”

Here’s how it works

Order two free asset tags MyAssetTag.com. Stick them on your phone, laptop, iPad, basically anything you hold of value. If your phone, laptop, or tablet get lost, luckily someone finds it and spots the tag. He/she visits MyAssetTag to send a message and return the phone. Simple as that!

This isn’t just for electronics. You can practically stick these things on anything you think you might lose. For example, your keys. Tech tagger lost keys

“We had some reservations about launching a low-tech product that relied entirely on the honor code,” said Blair Brewster, CEO of MyAssetTag.com

Personally, I think there’s a lot of good people out there that would return a valuable to it’s owner. I know if I found something with a tag like this, I would definitely contact the owner. Plus, I would be kind of curious to see what this tag instructed me to do.

Some people are surprised at just how honest people really are. Lostakey get a huge number of calls from people finding our member’s keys. We do actually give a reward, but the majority of people certainly don’t ring for that reason – they’re just happy to help. https://lostakey.co.uk/

Do they still take the reward? Also interested to hear what the reward is.

We generally just send the reward anyway and don’t ask them if they want it or not, but some specifically say they don’t want a reward when they ring in. The reward is a year’s free membership to Lostakey’s key cover. They know the service works and so are generally really happy with this. Overall I think they’re just happy to help though.
