This company wants to fix phone addiction with a ridiculous six pound iPhone case

Matter Neuroscience’s viral 6-pound iPhone case is transforming screen time habits, with a Kickstarter campaign already raising nearly $13,500 towards its $75,000 goal.

So apparently, we’ve reached peak smartphone addiction when someone thought, “Hey, what if we just made phones really heavy?”

Enter the viral 6-pound iPhone case that’s breaking the internet—and possibly your wrists.

The monstrosity comes from Matter Neuroscience, a team that clearly took “touch grass” very seriously.

Their stainless steel creation weighs as much as a small dumbbell and requires an Allen wrench to remove, because nothing says “digital wellness” like needing tools to access your phone.

The results? Actually pretty impressive.

Users report significant drops in screen time, which makes sense (holding a 6-pound brick to your face gets old fast). It’s like the physical embodiment of those “put your phone in another room” productivity hacks, except your phone becomes the other room.

The viral video racked up 430,000 Instagram likes in 10 days and nearly 7 million views across platforms. People are either fascinated or horrified—possibly both.

The Kickstarter campaign has raised $13,475 from 87 backers toward a $75,000 goal, with cases starting at $209.15.

The Good: It works. Unlike screen time apps you can easily bypass, physics doesn’t negotiate. Your arms will literally give out before you doom-scroll for hours.

The Bad: It’s a $200+ solution to a problem that could be solved with, you know, self-control. Plus, good luck taking selfies or using your phone one-handed ever again.

The case fits iPhone 13 series and newer models, so at least it’s future-proofed for when Apple inevitably makes phones even more addictive. Whether this is a brilliant intervention or elaborate performance art remains to be seen.
