The next-generation CarPlay’s widget UI has an app column like the existing version and the UI design is similar to what we have seen on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

At this point, it’s no secret that Apple has missed the deadline for its CarPlay 2.0.

The company teased the next-generation CarPlay experience in December 2023, and then we were promised that the CarPlay 2.0 will roll out in the US sometime in 2024.

Well, if you haven’t been hiding under a rock for the past few weeks, we just celebrated New Year’s. It’s 2025, and there’s no sign of CarPlay 2.0.

However, a fresh new leak provides insight into the next-generation CarPlay interface and proves that Apple is indeed still working on it.

Leaked CarPlay 2.0 images show Apple widget interface

Through a post on X/Twitter, Aaron Perris has shared his discovery of the CarPlay 2.0 widget interface via four images.

The leaked images were discovered in an EU database, which provides a glimpse into Apple’s ongoing development, like the leaked CarPlay 2.0 assets reported by MacRumors a few months back.

The images also show several widgets and a familiar app column on the left edge, like the existing CarPlay version.

  • Clock widget to show the city’s time
  • Weather widget for the Forecast
  • Calendar widget to notify you of your next event
  • A combination of Navigation & Now Playing widget
  • And a Now Playing standalone widget

However, what we find most interesting is that the leaked CarPlay 2.0 images resemble the widget UI we have seen on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, which is excellent as Apple users are very familiar with this system.

However, this also raises the question of why custom widgets like this are not available in the existing CarPlay version.

Either way, any verifiable information about CarPlay 2.0 is still missing, and we hope to see it sometime in 2025; the sooner, the better, as the Cupertino firm is already way past its promised deadline.
