Apple is working on a new video sharing app that let users record, apply drawings and filter to media – similar to Snapchat.

Apple is getting into the social media business. Bloomberg reports that the company is testing out an app that essentially lets iPhone users record videos while adding filters and text onto content, kind of like Snapchat.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, users can record a video, edit it, and upload it all under a minute. He breaks it down further below:

Apple is starting to develop a video sharing app that allows users to record video, apply filters and drawings to the media — much like Snapchat does — and send it to contacts or via existing social networks such as Twitter Inc., according to the people familiar with its development. The software is currently being designed to be used mostly with one hand and with the intention that video could be shot, edited, and uploaded in less than 1 minute, the people said. At least one of the prototype designs for the app would shoot video in an Instagram-like square shape, one of the people said.

The goal behind the project’s development is to offer simple video editing with tools that appeal to the generation of users growing up with Snapchat and Instagram

Apparently, they’re trying to push this out for a 2017 release. It also means the project can be dropped if it doesn’t meet expectations, and of course, its deadline.

We’ll learn more as time passes, this is a pretty early scoop from Bloomberg so time will only tell. Apple is holding press conference sometime in September to unveil the new iPhone. To learn more, be sure to click the Bloomberg link below.
