At its 2025 I/O event, Google unveiled new AI tools, showing just how deeply AI is being woven into its products.
One of the biggest highlights was Flow, an AI tool designed to help people create movies and video scenes using just their ideas and simple prompts.
Google says that Flow is part of a new generation of creative AI from the company. It combines several advanced models: Imagen 4 for generating images, Veo 3 for creating video, and Gemini AI for general intelligence and storytelling.
With these tools working together, Flow allows users to produce cinematic clips complete with visual scenes and audio, without needing to film anything themselves.
Flow is designed for both professionals and beginners, making it easy for anyone interested in storytelling or filmmaking to create rich, high-quality video content.
It includes advanced camera controls, allowing users to adjust angles, motion, and perspective as if they were directing a real movie scene.
Another feature, SceneBuilder, helps creators add more to existing shots or smoothly transition between scenes using consistent characters and motion.
This launch signals serious competition for OpenAI’s Sora, a high-profile video AI tool. However, Flow stands out by offering built-in audio generation, which helps streamline the process of making complete video scenes from scratch.
Some in the film industry are concerned about how these tools might disrupt traditional filmmaking and creative jobs.
However, others, like Oscar-nominated director Darren Aronofsky, see the tech as an exciting new frontier. He’s even partnering with Google to explore storytelling with generative AI, calling it the next big step in cinematic history, similar to the arrival of sound or color in movies.
Flow is now available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US. Google plans to expand the Flow AI tool to other countries in the near future.
