Apple is set to launch the iPhone 16 series in just a few days, but many Apple fans are eying the budget-friendly iPhone SE 4, which is also rumored to appear at the event, according to a recent report.

Although we are unsure whether the iPhone SE 4 will appear at next week’s event, the device is rumored to have some significant changes. It is rumored to finally abandon its prehistoric shell in favor of a more modern, iPhone 14-like design.

In addition, a new report from Nikkei Asia suggests that the iPhone SE 4 may very well become the first iPhone SE to adopt an OLED panel.

Nikkei Asia’s report basically corroborates the previous rumor that the iPhone SE 4 will switch to an OLED panel, which is significant as there won’t be an iPhone with an LCD panel, signifying the end of an era.

Either way, switching to an OLED panel means more vibrant colors, true blacks, and far better contrast. Overall, it will be a superior experience.

Expect only a 60Hz refresh rate, as Apple reserves the 120Hz refresh rate panel for its highest-end iPhones and iPads.

In addition, the reports state that Japan Display and Sharp supply Apple with LCD panels and previously had a combined share of 70% of iPhone displays, but that was only a decade ago.

However, these two companies will likely soon be replaced by BOE and LG Display; they currently produce OLED panels for iPhones.

It is well-known that Apple was far behind Android in adopting OLED displays. And if Apple finally shifts the iPhone SE 4 to OLED in the next week or even next year, there will be no iPhones with LCD panels ever again.
