UPDATE 4/2/2025: The wait is finally over. Nintendo has officially announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5, 2025. Preorders open on April 9. The original story follows below.

Nintendo has confirmed that the successor to the Nintendo Switch console will be announced before April 2025, with a deadline of March 31st, 2025, reports Bloomberg. This aligns with the current rumored launch in Q1 2025.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the Switch 2 console will not be mentioned during the upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation in June.

Per The Verge:

We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.

Nintendo tweet about new Switch successor announcement.

Despite the anticipated slowdown in Switch console sales, Nintendo remains committed to putting multiple Switch consoles in every home.

Rumors surrounding the speculated Switch 2 hint at an 8-inch display and the inclusion of backward compatibility with original Switch games and Joy-Cons.

There are talks of new Joy-Cons that could attach magnetically, signaling potential exclusivity with the new console. Until Nintendo officially announces it, this is still speculation, and we’ll get the bigger picture later in the year.
