Setup
The KM601’s setup is simple by design. Moreover, it comes in a nice, protective carrying case with a user manual, batteries, two probes, and thermocouples for telling temperature.
The ports for the probes are located on the bottom of the multimeter. This is a bit unfamiliar, considering most multimeters connect the probes on the front.
Most meters are designed so users can work the probes and set the meter down, leaning against something, so it’s easy to read.
But the KM601’s small form factor and multiple buttons mean the probes connect at the bottom.
To start, open up the KM601 and install the batteries. That process is easy, requiring you to remove the silicon outer shell and take off the battery plate with a screwdriver.
Once you do that, the multimeter comes on automatically. Then, it’s ready to use, defaulting to Smart mode.
Smart mode
Smart mode is the ideal setting on the KM601 for the average multimeter user.
It allows the multimeter to automatically detect the correct measurement and display it on-screen without requiring the user to set any parameters.
However, the KM601 Smart mode lets you access all the basic functions of the KM601. Moreover, it can test AC and DC voltage, resistance, and continuity.
