President Donald Trump has stated that he spoke with Apple CEO Tim Cook, who reportedly committed to significantly increasing Apple’s investment in the United States.

Speaking at a victory rally ahead of his inauguration, Trump highlighted commitments from major businesses, including Apple, SoftBank, and DAMAC, to boost domestic investment.

“I spoke with Tim Cook of Apple,” Trump said. “He said they’re going to make a massive investment in the United States because of our big election win.” (Via Fox Business)

However, specific details regarding the scale and nature of Apple’s pledged investment were not disclosed.

Apple wants to offer more innovation and jobs in the US

Historically, Apple has maintained a strong presence in the US, emphasizing its patriotism and dedication to job creation.

Cook has stated, “We love this country. We’re patriots. This is our country. [We want] to create as many jobs in the US as we can.”

Despite these statements, the majority of Apple’s manufacturing occurs overseas, particularly in China.

Recent developments, such as the CHIPS Act signed by President Joe Biden in 2022, have supported US-based chip production.

Apple’s chip supplier, TSMC, is building plants in Arizona, a move partially funded under the act.

Tim Cook has shown a more direct approach to engaging with President Trump than Apple, which took a relatively distant stance during Trump’s first term.

This includes attending in-person meetings, donating $1 million to the inauguration fund, and personally congratulating Trump on social media.

Cook’s actions align with those of other Big Tech CEOs, such as Google’s Sundar Pichai and Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, who have reiterated their commitments to innovation, growth, and job creation in the US.

While Trump attributes Apple’s investment pledge to his reelection, the timing and context suggest it is more closely tied to long-term initiatives, such as the CHIPS Act.

This ruling aims to support domestic semiconductor production, a critical component of Apple’s devices.
