It’s official! Apple has scheduled an event for September 12 to launch the iPhone 15 series and the new Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2.
But this year’s event is a little more exciting than usual, as a big change is coming to the Apple smartphone. The company is finally switching from Lightning to USB-C ports.
However, according to the latest report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the AirPods will also be a part of this transition to complement the iPhone 15 lineup.
USB-C for AirPods Pro too
Mark Gurman discussed Apple’s latest announcement, the upcoming Wonderlust event, in his recent post, stating,
“To match the new iPhones, Apple will introduce updated AirPods at the event that include a USB-C charging port.”
However, Gurman failed to specify which AirPods supposedly get this USB-C treatment.
Currently, Apple has four AirPods in its lineup: AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max.
Any one of these four earbuds could be subjected to the USB-C refresh, but we speculate the AirPods Pro 2 will be the most likely candidate, being the most recent addition to the lineup.
Even before Gurman’s report, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple could release a USB-C AirPods Pro 2 variant this year.
However, Kuo further specified that the Cupertino company has no plans to release the non-Pro AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 with a USB-C charging case.
