These days, it seems like wired controllers are a thing of the past. And with that, every major console manufacturer has introduced wireless Bluetooth controllers to the mix.
The Xbox One has them, as well as the PlayStation 4. It’s pretty standard these days, but what about Nintendo’s Joy-Con controllers?
So when it comes to the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, how do they work? Do they connect to a device via Bluetooth? If not Bluetooth, how do they work wirelessly? Well, let’s find out.
Are Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers Bluetooth?
- Short Answer: Yes.
As we mentioned in an earlier post, Nintendo did so many things right with the Switch, and one of those was the decision to use standard Bluetooth technology as the way to connect the controllers to the console. That means you can easily use the unique controllers on a PC, Mac, or even an Android device.
Important Note: Bluetooth connectivity on devices like a Mac or PC is questionable at times and can be easily interrupted by interfering devices.
Sadly for iPhone or iPad users, you’re out of luck. iOS uses its own Bluetooth controller blueprint which means it doesn’t work natively with the Joy-Con or Switch Pro controllers.

So with that being said, this was an easy question to answer. Yes, the Nintendo Switch controllers connect to the console as well as other various devices via Bluetooth. That’s pretty sweet.
