Google’s Gemini Live is poised to improve AI-driven voice interactions by introducing automatic summarization.

When it comes to voice-based interactions, summarization is noticeably absent unless explicitly requested in Gemini.

Google is addressing this gap in an upcoming update for Gemini Live. Gemini Live is a conversational AI embedded within the Gemini app for Android.

Unlike traditional chatbot interactions, which often rely on highly structured text prompts, Gemini Live aims to mimic a natural conversation.

Users receive a full discussion transcript when a session ends, but they must manually ask for a summary.

This limitation has led to workarounds, such as copying individual responses for summarization—an inefficient and tedious process.

Recent findings from a Google app beta (version 16.6.23) suggest that Google is developing an automated summarization feature.

Popular Google app researcher and tipster AssembleDebug on X told Android Authority about a hidden mechanism where the app submits a predefined prompt at the end of a conversation.

This engineered prompt directs the AI to generate an executive summary featuring bold topic headers, concise two-sentence descriptions, and an emphasis on the conversation’s overall sentiment.

Notably, Google aims to prevent the AI from introducing unnecessary “fluff,” ensuring that the summaries remain transparent and to the point.

Although this functionality is not yet live, speculation suggests that Google could integrate it via a dedicated summarization button or an automated process.

Additionally, Google is working on a captioning feature for Gemini Live, which will allow users to review past responses in real-time and improve accessibility and usability.

For those opting out of captions, a full transcript will still be available after the conversation, making an AI-generated summary even more valuable.

While there is no official timeline for the release of these features, Google’s ongoing efforts suggest that improvements to Gemini Live are on the horizon.
