Earlier today, Apple introduced two next-generation iPad Pro models during its special event in Brooklyn, New York. The new 2018 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
But here’s the kicker: To get the best iPad Pro money can buy, you’re going to have dish out an ungodly amount of money – $2,227 to be exact. For a tablet.
Now, to be fair, this is including accessories and all the sweet performance upgrades Apple has to offer. But honestly, you can’t use this new 12.9-inch iPad Pro to its full potential if you don’t have the nifty accessories to go with it.
To paint a better picture, here’s what you’re getting for that almost-criminal price:
- iPad Pro – $999
- Upgrade from 64GB to 1TB storage: $750
- LTE cellular chip: $150
- Upgraded Apple Pencil: $129
- Smart Keyboard Folio: $199
Obviously, this isn’t considering taxes, so expect to see another generous bump in your total cost. The good news is that Apple will ship out your $2,227 purchase for free, so at least you have that. I mean, it’s the least they could do.
Here is what’s driving up the price
Naturally, the big ticket item here that’s bumping the price up significantly is the 1TB upgrade of $750. You can literally find 1TB hard drives on Amazon for a whole lot less than what Apple is offering. But hey, Apple can charge literally any number they want, and you’d still see people gobbling it up without a care in the world.
Another thing is the LTE cell chip, which in most cases, a lot of people won’t really need. And if you do, don’t forget, there’s an additional monthly charge for that too.
Last but not least, the accessories. Obviously, if you’re planning to use the iPad Pro to its full potential, you’re going to need these so spending the extra bucks on those might make you cringe the next time you look at your bank account, but rest assured, you’ll get the best experience using these with your new iPad Pro.
The new iPad Pro
With a design that looks similar to the iPhone X lineup, the new iPad Pro models feature smaller bezels, Face ID, and for the first time, no Home button. Each includes a Liquid Retina display like the one found on the iPhone XR. Inside, you’ll find an A12X Bionic chip with next-generation Neural Engine.
Instead of Lightning, the 2018 iPad Pros feature a USB-C connection which you can use to charge other devices such as your iPhone or camera.
Apple also announced two accessories for the new tablets. The $129 second-generation Apple Pencil and all-new Smart Keyboard Folio ($179 for the 11-inch iPad Pro model, $199 for the 12.9-inch variant.)
If you got it like that, by all means, go for it
This is seriously a baller iPad Pro, but man, that price is something not to be messed with. Sure, it’s the best iPad Pro money can buy and it’s surely the best one Apple has ever made, but cmon, $2,227? Really?
Either way, if you’re looking to drop your hard-earned money on the most expensive iPad Pro, you can order it now through the Apple website, naturally.
Do you got it like that? Do you plan on buying one of these or is it too rich for your blood? Let us know down in the comments.
