The Nintendo Switch is a solid console offering, but because Nintendo is Nintendo, it might not be the perfect console for you out of the box.
While the Joy-Con controllers are an interesting take on the classic controller and have some interesting uses, especially for portable gaming, they can also fall flat for certain games and gamers. In addition to some controller woes, the Switch also suffers from extremely limited storage space, making the choices about which games to keep on the system harder than it should be.
Luckily, there are solutions to both of these problems.
The Nintendo Switch Pro controller
While a little pricey at $69.99, the Nintendo Switch Pro controller is a great addition to any gamer that spends a lot of time with the Nintendo Switch. Featuring a more traditional layout than the Joy-Cons, the Pro version of the Nintendo controller will feel right at home in your hands.
It’s wireless, features the motion-controls, rumble features, and can even be used to connect your various Amiibo to different games. If you’re going to play something like Rocket League, or even Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, then the form and function of the Pro controller will be worth the purchase price.
A microSD card, seriously, just do it
Admittedly, I was one of the people who took too long to buy an SD card for my Switch. I’m not going to be playing that many games, right? Wrong, just wrong. You will be playing that many games, especially considering the fact that the Nintendo Switch cannot house both Skyrim and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at the same time.
Featuring only 32GB of internal storage, a cheap microSD card will save you many headaches going forward. The Switch can actually utilize up to a 2TB microSD card, none of those are currently available, so something like a 128GB or 256GB version should work just fine for most any gamer’s needs.
