OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has announced a new feature for the chatbot, a feature that enables ChatGPT to perform tasks for you.

The feature is called, well, “Tasks” and will be rolling out as a beta feature to ChatGPT Pro, Plus, and Teams users over the next few days.

According to the company, the new feature will enable ChatGPT to do things for you in the future.

These include weekly global news briefings to reminding you, say, when the tickets for the upcoming Christopher Nolan movie you have been waiting for to go on sale.

The company says, “think of tasks as scheduled ChatGPT prompt.”

What is ChatGPT Tasks?

While ChatGPT is already helpful, the new Tasks feature seems like the next step: AI is doing the work for you.

Tasks feel more like a combination of Google Alerts and your personal calendar with a pinch of ChatGPT capabilities.

However, you can also treat it as a completely new thing, as it is OpenAI’s first taste of agentic AI—when AI can perform tasks on its user’s behalf.

To start using tasks, select “GPT-4o with scheduled tasks” from the drop-down menu in ChatGPT.

In this mode, messages sent to ChatGPT are automatically converted into tasks. You can also manage tasks from your ChatGPT profile.

Additionally, ChatGPT also suggests tasks to its users, so you have the option to accept or reject them.

You will receive notifications through push notifications on your phone if you use the ChatGPT mobile app and on your browser or macOS if you use the desktop version.

Feeling excited about the new ChatGPT feature? Well, get ready, as “Tasks” will roll out globally to ChatGPT Plus, Tems, and Pro users on all platforms in the next few days as a beta feature.

However, the tasks manager will initially only be available on the web version.
