OpenAI launches its latest AI model, GPT 4.5 for ChatGPT

Microsoft-backed Artificial Intelligence company OpenAI has announced the next iteration of its AI models, the GPT 4.5. 

OpenAI calls it the largest and best model yet for chat purposes. Its enhanced natural interactions and improved pattern recognition help it draw connections and better insights. 

GPT 4.5 is available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers and developers on all paid tiers. Next week, Plus and Team users will have access, and education and Enterprise access will follow. 

GPT 4.5 supports file uploads and allows for writing and code. However, it doesn’t support voice mode, video, and screen sharing.

ChatGPT 4.5 – What’s new 

GPT 4.5, which builds on GPT 4o, has a more natural feel to it. It’s like an improved personality that helps users guide through the ideas and steps more thoroughly.

It also outperforms GPT4o in almost every classification, such as day-to-day and professional queries, creative intelligence, etc. 

OpenAI states that GPT 4.5 excels in writing, programming, and problem-solving thanks to its improved understanding of user intent and enhanced emotional intelligence.

Expect more intuitive conversations, which are more like conversing with humans, as it better understand what humans mean and interpret more accurately

However, GPT 4.5 is not a reasoning model like the o1 or o3 mini. 

GPT 4.5 is better for general use. The reasoning models outperform GPT 4.5 in classifications like coding and math. 

GPT 4.5 launch didn’t go as planned due to GPU shortage

Unfortunately, the GPT 4.5 launch didn’t go as planned for OpenAI.

According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the company had to limit the release of GPT 4.5 to ChatGPT Pro subscribers ($200/month) and developers on the paid API tiers, who will pay $75 per 1 million tokens, due to GPU shortage.

Altman said OpenAI wanted to make GPT 4.5 available in its affordable ChatGPT Plus tier($20/month), where the company usually launches its new products.

Altman even apologizes, stating, “This isn’t how we want to operate.”

The issue will be resolved once the company obtains more GPUs. GPT 4.5 will then become accessible to Plus and Team users, followed by Enterprise and Edu users.

Furthermore, the company needs these GPUs for the much-anticipated GPT-5 launch in the upcoming months and its pledge to invest $500 billion in AI infrastructure over the next four years as part of Project Stargate. 

GPT 4.5 is the gold standard for now, at least according to OpenAI. However, it will likely say the same when GPT 5 arrives.
