Ring, the Amazon-owned purveyor of home security, has decided it’s time to pinch those pennies a bit harder.
Starting March 11, 2024, the cost of keeping your porch pirate-free and your deliveries safe with Ring’s entry-level subscription plan, Ring Protect Basic, will inch up by a whole dollar monthly or ten bucks annually.
Yup, from $3.99 to $4.99 per month or $39.99 to $49.99 per year because, as the once famous Marlow states from one of the best shows on the planet, The Wire: “Price of the brick is going up.”
Ring Protect is a comprehensive subscription service that lets you review, share, and save every video and photo your Ring device captures and opt-in to 24/7 Professional Monitoring.
Now, before you toss your Ring doorbell in the donation bin, let’s unpack this a bit.
As our friends at Engadget report, this price hike might seem like a small change at first, but let’s be honest – $10 isn’t that much of a big deal.
And if it was, maybe investing in an internet-connected camera that revolves around a monthly subscription wasn’t the wisest decision.

But let’s not lose our heads over this. The plan doesn’t change, and you still get all the same features. Nothing is going away.
So, where does this leave us? Well, if you’re already in the Ring ecosystem, it might be time to assess whether that extra dollar a month is worth it for the convenience and security Ring offers.
And if you’re on the fence about diving into the world of smart home security, this news might just tip the scales for you one way or the other. If that’s the case, we suggest reading this: Best home security cameras (2024).
