Samsung unveiled the Flex Gaming handheld at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025. While the event showcased numerous smartphones, the Flex Gaming stood out as a long-rumored folding gaming console.

This handheld concept has been developing for some time, with speculation increasing over the past six months.

Hints first surfaced when Valve began optimizing Steam games for ARM64, followed by leaks confirming Samsung’s involvement in a foldable gaming device.

Now, Flex Gaming has debuted in Barcelona and is displayed alongside Samsung’s latest OLED advancements. However, it remains a concept device and has not yet been confirmed for production.

Samsung foldable handheld gaming device is still in an early stage

The Flex Gaming sports a 7.2-inch foldable OLED panel and features joysticks that fit into designated slots when closed.

However, it lacks buttons and a D-pad, making its current design impractical for most gaming experiences.

Furthermore, attendees were not allowed to handle the device, suggesting it was still an early prototype rather than a near-finished product.

The question remains whether Samsung will fully develop the Flex Gaming into a commercial handheld.

Its potential positioning is unclear—whether it will compete with high-end gaming handhelds like the ROG Ally X or cater to the market of Android-based consoles.

There is also the possibility that another company could adopt Samsung’s foldable OLED technology to create a similar product.

Whether or not the Flex Gaming becomes an actual product, its presence at MWC 2025 signals Samsung’s continued experimentation in next-gen portable gaming.

Samsung unveils tri-fold smartphone concept

Besides the gaming foldable, the company also unveiled a tri-folding phone, the Samsung Asymmetric Flip, a dual-folding flip phone with an unconventional design.

Resembling a Galaxy Z Flip, it has two inward-folding hinges positioned at different distances from the phone’s top and bottom edges.

This unusual hinge placement leaves a thin section of the display exposed when folded, which could function as an Always-on Display due to the device’s lack of a cover screen.

While this design is unique, its practical advantages over the existing Galaxy Z Flip lineup remain unclear.
