Virtually anything can be bought as an NFT, and the world of crypto keeps surprising us with all the crazy things that people buy every day.

One of the most recent significant transactions that have been made is one collectible “bible” of the movie Dune by Alejandro Jodorowsky. Dune is one of the most famous science fiction pieces that stayed as a concept.

If you want to know everything about how this masterpiece was bought for all the wrong reasons, keep reading the rest of this article.

What Is a “Dune Bible”?

In the 70s, Dune by Frank Herbert had already gained some popularity. Therefore, before David Lynch attempted and utterly failed in adapting the piece, Alejandro Jodorowsky was already so in love with the story that he tried to turn it into a cinematographic masterpiece that people would remember for decades.

His vision was filled with Pink Floyd’s music and a fascinating cast. However, it was never brought to reality, which has immortalized it as the most famous unfinished movie in history.

Even though a sequel made by Warners Bros is soon going to be released, Jodorowsky’s fans still dream about seeing his piece come to life.

One of the things that kept this dream alive was the several concept arts and “bibles” about the movie circulating online for years. Some people even say about 10 bibles of this piece exist globally, which has turned these books into legends.

A couple of months ago, it was announced that one of these bibles was going to be auctioned in Christie’s, and its owners projected its value around $40,000. Nonetheless, the real prize surpassed everyone’s expectations.

Who Bought the NFT?

Spice DAO was the winner of the auction. They bought the NFT for over $3,000,000, and they intended to publish the book, create an animated series for a streaming platform, and support all derivated projects.

Nonetheless, not everything is as easy as they expected. The principal investor is Soban Saqib, who admitted to spending all of his money on the piece but was feeling calm as the Spice DAO community backed him up.

This community of crypto investors bought the book to create tokens that benefited the Spice DAO community, which would be sold at very high rates due to the speculative nature of NFTs.

However, they still have the purpose of creating an animated piece of Dune, which is far from becoming a reality for a series of reasons.

One of them is that this isn’t the only Dune bible in the world, as another one was sold about three years ago for $42,000. This means that owning one of these books doesn’t immediately give you the copyright of the series, which still belongs to Jodorowsky and other people involved in the original project.

Hopefully, Saqib and the rest of Spice DAO knew this before investing all of that money in the piece, but if one thing is certain, they aren’t going to be able to carry out their plan as they wanted to.

Bottom Line

Lots of crazy things happen every day in the world of NFTs. You never know what token is going to blow up for thousands of dollars, but if you’re lucky enough, you might end up with a one-of-a-kind token that you can either keep or resell for as much as you want.
