Alexa users have been posting on social media about how their Alexa devices were laughing at them. Amazon has responded and said that “we’re aware of this and working to fix it.”
Buzzfeed News published an article showcasing Alexa users’ experiences, and Amazon responded with a short and brief “we are working on it.” Buzzfeed explained that at first the laughter was prompted after users would ask the voice assistant to “turn the lights off,” but later the laughter would play even when unprompted. The laugh doesn’t sound like the machine-voice Alexa has, it sounds like an actual human female.
The creepy laugh made it as a trending Twitter moment, as users shared their experiences and videos of the laughter. Some people said that they thought it was an actual person laughing in their home, which can undoubtedly be scary if they were home alone. If this had happened to me when I was home alone, I would have pissed my pants.
@CaptHandlebar was one of the first to tweet the creepy Alexa laugh:
It all seems like somebody at Amazon made a mistake. They should have saved this “Alexa laugh” for Halloween. Take advantage of the moment, Amazon!
