Amazon is introducing a new Echo device to the mix – the $90 Echo Show 5.
It’s a smaller Echo Show aimed as a bedside or desk companion. It’s essentially Alexa stuffed into a smaller screen compared to the bigger Echo Show.
What to expect from the new Echo Show 5
The Echo Show 5 will debut for $89.99, and here are some other features of the new device:
- Display measures 5.5-inches across.
- The Echo Show 5 comes in both black (“Charcoal”) and white (“Sandstone”).
- Amazon says that the Echo Show 5 is meant for the bedside or desk
- Looks awfully a lot like Google’s Nest Hub.
- Features a soft touch fabric finish.
- A built-in camera that features a physical shutter for all the privacy buffs out there.
- The device has an ambient lighting mode that adjusts the screen’s brightness according to its surroundings.
As a desk or bedside companion, I can see how this would make a lot of sense. I’m the guy who manually sets my phone’s alarm every night before I go to sleep. So having this at my bedside would come in insanely clutch. But at the same time, a $50 Echo Dot essentially does the same job.
Either way, it’s a neat little gadget that isn’t going to break the bank. The Echo Show 5 ships on June 26 but Amazon is currently accepting preorders now. Head on over to their website for more info.
