You can now turn your Fire tablet into an Echo device with Show Mode

If you own an Amazon Fire tablet (we know you’re out there), we have some news for you. The company recently introduced the Show Mode Charging Dock for select Fire tablets. With it, you can turn your device into something closer to an Echo Show. For us that have a random Fire tablet lying around, this is a great update to give it more functionality.

Here’s how it works: By pressing the “Show Mode” button on the tablet’s pull-down menu, you can switch to an “always on” screen like the Echo Show. The device will show you the weather, timers, your shopping list, and play your video flash briefings. Turning off Show Mode will let you use your tablet normally again to watch videos, play games, or read.

Priced at $34.99 and up and launching early next month, the Show Mode Charging Dock is intended to turn your tablet into a “full-screen Alexa experience optimized for visibility across the room.”

With the dock, you will be able to automatically switch to Show Mode to enjoy movies, TV shows, books, and even games while your table is docked. You’ll also be able to ask Alexa to start a hands-free video or voice call while docked.

Other features include:

• Stream music from Pandora, TuneIn, and iHeartRadio (Spotify is coming soon) and listen to audiobooks from Audible. Just ask Alexa to play a song, artist, or genre, see lyrics with Amazon Music.
• For richer sound, connect your tablet to external speakers via Bluetooth or 3.5 mm audio cable.
• Attach the case to your Fire HD 8 tablet and magnetically dock to the adjustable stand for convenient charging.
• Small enough to place on a kitchen counter, nightstand, or desk.
• Includes a case, adjustable stand, power adapter, and USB cable.

The new Show Mode Charging Dock is available for the Fire HD 10 for $49.99 and the Fire HD 8 for $34.99. Both models launch on July 12.
